Greatest business text book ever written? Not in my view. I’ve read it dozens of times as a child, to my children and soon to my grand daughter. But more than read it….I have seen and even invested occassionally in want to be entrepenurers who shun accountability and think all it takes hard work, the “Scruffy the Tugboat” School of Business. If you didnt grow up on this text, its quite simple….”I was built for bigger things” Our hero Scruffy rejects the bathtub, small streams and rivers for Ocean going….and gets in alot of trouble. Success in business will be based significantly upon the hard work of knowing yourself, staffing to your weaknesses and having an open floor to tough evaluation of your plans and results.
So, who cares….well, investors in your company, sometimes your spouse who is going to lose their house, your parents who bet the farm on your “adventure” Today, in honour of FAMILY DAY, I am striking one for families everywhere. Dont be a Scruffy, please! if you have to take your business strategy from the books of our childhood, how about THE LITTLE ENGINE THAT COULD!!! While cleaning up the mess associated with the “fall” that comes after PRIDE is very profitable for JMA, we would rather just hang on for a well managed advance of the business plan, it keeps the FAMILY safe!
