Art imitating life…

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

okay, so maybe this comic isnt art….but on the scale of unique things we have been asked to deduct, this is a fair representation. Interestingly enough, while never able to verify it, sometimes I think clients who have ambitions of deducting their pets, or trips to the Amazon as business development wait until the pressure of the last week and the crazy long hours to attempt to breach the wall of good judgement by their tax accountant. But….thanks to ever increasing ambitions to hold tax accountants responsible for the returns they prepare, I think we actually are less tolerant. Gone are the days of tax guys who split the refund with clients….we are increasingly agents of the Federal Government, like our US CPA Brethern who are actually called “enrolled agents” Unlike the cartoon, tax compliance is become less art and more enforcement. This makes tax planning the part we do for 10 months each year increasingly important!429222931_a152020a1d1

You Can’t Get There From Here!!!

I love it when people say it can't be done. Its like waving a red flag in front of a bull.....I can't help myself. If your taxes are too complicated, if your debts are out of control, if your competition has crushed you, if the new product bombed....if it can't be done....bring it on! Now, lets be sure of something, the great benefit of doing the undoable is that our value proposition is massive and as a result, we do well when you do!!!

So while its great fun doing the impossible, its very profitable too!

Good Friday….

Friday, April 10th, 2009

You work on Good Friday? Well really we just dig out. Do our best to get out to church, remember WHY THEY CALL IT GOOD FRIDAY….it was a GOOD DAY, because without it….there is no hope! Home for hot cross buns (yes CROSS….no idea!) Then to the office with a shovel and see if I can get back behind the snowball called tax deadline. April 15th US DEADline coming in fast now! We give the staff the option of working Friday or Saturday!snowball

Harmonized Sales Tax – The Good, The Bad, and The Who Cares

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

I found a great article on CBC’s website outlining what exactly the Ontario Government meant when they introduced the idea of “Harmonized Sales Tax.”  To most of us, the idea of taxation is an uncomfortable topic at best (which is why I have a job).

The new Harmonized Sales Tax will hurt the general consumer more than help them.  Whether is it increased fuel prices or service-driven industries like salons and fitness clubs, our costs will rise.

Most would tell you that this is a bad thing, others may say it is a good long-term play…I am from the land of “Who Gives a Care!”  Were in an economic downturn, let’s stop getting distracted and keep the main thing the main thing….Work Hard and Remain Confident!

Economy getting better

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

is it this kind of bad....I dont think so!
Okay, so you have 3 cavities, the dentist has your face frozen, go to your special place and tough it out. The economy will get better when it gets better. The G20 Leaders have the “fixit” message, its been 16 years since the last check up (1992 recession) so yeah, you got alot of cavities, you should have brushed and flossed more. Grow up already!
